Course description

This short course aims to give an overview of Dysphagia for those caring for someone with this condition.  This course is delivered remotely via directed self study and webinar.

Content includes:

- What is dysphagia
- What does it mean and how does it affect the person
- Symptoms, signs and concerns
- What does it mean for us and the person we are caring for
- Aspiration risks
- Understanding our limitations

For remote learning, the will be a direct self study sent out usually 1 week prior to the course that requires up to 1 hour of work before the webinar.  This will combine provided written materials, videos and other learning routes and the completed assessment at the end must be submitted prior to the webinar.

After this there will be a 2 hour webinar that will combine trainer lead presentation, discussions, group work (zoom breakout rooms) and case studies.

Instructions and a link to join the course will be provided by the trainer in advance of the Introduction session date.  All learners will attend by Zoom video call as standard.  Zoom is accessible on PCs, tablets and smartphones.

Please be aware, Zoom is not accessible via Buckinghamshire Council devices. To access this course you must ensure to have provided an email address which can be used from a non-Buckinghamshire maintained device.

Training objectives

  • To recognise the signs and symptoms of Dysphagia and act on them where appropriate.

  • To know your limitations in the situation. 

  • To know the aspiration risks of Dysphagia.


Learning outcomes

  • To understand what Dysphagia is

  • What is Dyshagia is and how it affects the individual.

  • To be aware of the signs and symptoms of Dysphagia.

This course is delivered via zoom online meetings. You will need to complete 1 hours worth of work prior to the course time and will be contacted regarding this a week before the course via email.
